Is playing video games harmful?

Ana sayfa / News

For decades, the question of whether playing video games is good for the mind or whether it enhances the brain has been a topic of debate among scientists. Many studies have also explored how gaming affects people’s education and work life. However, the latest comprehensive study might make you forget what you thought you knew…

Playing video games is beneficial, mentally and physically!

The ‘Brain and Body’ study, conducted in collaboration between Western University and the Science and Industry Museum, involved more than 2,000 participants worldwide. The results revealed that individuals who regularly play video games have far more advanced cognitive abilities compared to their peers. It was also noted that these individuals tend to be more successful in their professional lives.

Led by Neurology Professor Adrian Owen, the research team found that individuals who play games for at least 5 hours a week performed cognitively at a level comparable to those 13.7 years younger than them. This suggests that in positions requiring problem-solving, quick decision-making, and analytical thinking, employees with video game experience may have an edge.

Another striking result of the study concerns physical activity. It was found that participants who followed the World Health Organization’s recommendation of exercising for 150 minutes or more per week had a 12% lower likelihood of showing symptoms of depression and a 9% lower likelihood of showing anxiety symptoms.
